The Story
“Signed in Madinah, 1932 — the year the Kingdom took its name.”
01Origin & making
AlUla, Saudi Arabia, 19th century. Composed to the classical nuqta system, where every letter is measured against a single dot of the pen. Materials: Ink and gold on paper.
02The life of the object
A master's demonstration piece rather than a commission: the letter proportions follow the classical nuqta system exactly, and a faint compass prick survives at the centre of the composition.
03The journey to Arajiz
Held by the calligrapher's students until sold in 2016. Offered through Hijaz Manuscripts in Jeddah. Our specialists examined material, tooling marks and repair history, and a full condition report accompanies the lot.
