01Origin & making
Asir, Saudi Arabia, 18th century. Written on burnished laid paper with reed pen and iron-gall ink, ruled before a single word was set. Materials: Ink and gold on paper.
02The life of the object
Copied in an Ottoman Hijazi workshop where illumination and text were the work of two different hands. Marginal thumb-darkening on the lower right shows the folio was turned, again and again, by a right-handed reader.
03The journey to Arajiz
Separated from its codex before 1950; documented in two European sale records. Offered through Hijaz Manuscripts in Jeddah. Our specialists examined material, tooling marks and repair history, and a full condition report accompanies the lot.
