Hijaz, Saudi Arabia, 19th century. Cast, chased and assembled by a village silversmith who worked to weight rather than to drawing. Materials: Sterling silver.

Hung with Ottoman and Maria Theresa pieces of four different dates — added over years as the household could afford them. The chain shows two soldered lengthenings as the wearer grew.
