Storyline
01Origin & making
AlUla, Saudi Arabia, 18th century. Made for the journey to Makkah — light enough to carry, sturdy enough to return. Materials: Ink and gold on paper.
02The life of the object
Silver-gilt thread on black silk from the Makkah workshop, cut from a retired kiswah and distributed as a documented gift. The couching stitch is the workshop's own, and matches published examples exactly.
03The journey to Arajiz
Accompanied by its presentation documentation since issue. Offered through Madinah Heritage Trust in Madinah. Our specialists examined material, tooling marks and repair history, and a full condition report accompanies the lot.
