Storyline

01Origin & making

Hijaz, Saudi Arabia, 18th century. Cut in one width of loomed cloth and embroidered in the hand, over a season of evening work. Materials: Cotton with zari thread.

02The life of the object

An Eastern Province festival thobe worked by two embroiderers over a season. The gold thread is heaviest at the chest, where light from an oil lamp would catch it as the wearer moved.

03The journey to Arajiz

Family consignment from Qatif, with the original tailor's note. Offered through Eastern Pearl Divers in Qatif. Our specialists examined material, tooling marks and repair history, and a full condition report accompanies the lot.
